OK, I've had this game since Wednesday, but I'm just now getting around to playing it! Very nice game. I thought the graphics in the first DC game were pretty darn good, these are definitely an improvement. Especially in the stages. They made the AI a bit less forgiving than the first game. The new Weapon Master mode is like the Mission mode in the first game. Although you can buy weapons and stuff. I've only played with Talim so far (^_^), but I look forward to unlocking all the features of this game. All in all, it's an enjoyable little game.

Which version did you get, Saucer-kun? PS2, GC, or XBox?

I just got my copy yesterday, and I stayed up too late playing last night. Quite a fun and addictive game! I think it's as good as everyone expected it to be.
At first I was only playing with Link, but then I started experimenting with other characters and noticed that the one I was most effective with was Raphael. I guess the only bad thing is that I feel I'm button mashing too much when I use him, but it seems to work, so no point in stopping. Oh, and good thing the secret characters here weren't so hard to unlock! There's games in which you have to play for months if you want to get another chara, and in which they only start you up with a few.
Anyway, this game rocks. Now I need to find someone around here who's also into video games so I can fight someone other than the computer.

I got the PS2 version. Pretty cool game. i just mad because they massacred Seung Mina by making her a kilik clone. Now I have to take the time to relearn her so for now Knightmare, Cassandra and Sophie are my players.

What?! What the fuck did they do to Seung Mina? I haven't unlocked her yet, so this comes as a suprise to me. Damn. Oh well, I'm going to unlock Sophitia tommorow if I have time. Cassandra is cool, her fighting style is very similar to Sophitia's so it's easy to pick up. Although, she's not quite as fast or brutal as Sophitia. ^^;
Zelas, I got the XB version. They mapped the analog stick into the controller scheme and the buttons are exactly the same. So It's like a perfect transition for me, from SC to SC2. Especially since the XB controller is almost an exact clone fo the Dreamcast controller.
D'Art, Raphael probably just matches your fighting style. Work with him and master him. No matter how many people tell you to master all chara in a game, it's best to have at least one you know backwards and forwards, up and down. If it's your favorite chara, you're all that more likely to be a tougher opponent.

You're totally right, Saucer. I think his style was just easier for me to pick up than any other. And you know, he fights the way I picture D'Artagnan and the musketeers would, so that's way cool.
I really didn't play the original too much, other than at friends' houses and on arcade, so I know I'm probably not nearly as good as some of you guys yet. But so far I've found this game unbelievably fun. It's so well done, the fighting styles are varied, the animation is smooth and realistic, the controls are tight, and the character models are pretty. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters ever, right up there with Street Fighter II and Super Smash Bros Melee.
The thing I'm not sure about yet is whether I should use the d-pad or the analog stick. I just feel some moves are easier with one, and some with the other, so it's hard to decide. I'll use both some more, and see what works best, I guess.

Yup, the best thing to do is pick which control you're most comfortable with. That's what's great about having your choice of digital and analog controllers.
I mastered Talim's distance attacks! And, I got her Wind Blades. A vicious combo. Talim is completely awesome to the max. I unlocked Sophitia finally, which is a big relief. I like her second costume the best. I noticed that they changed alot of the voices. Sophitia's voice is even better than before. And then, there's good ol' Xianhua. She never lets me down. ^_^
I actually haven't played since the weekend, kinda busy this week. But it wil be therer waiting for me when I have time.

Sounds like you're making good progress there, Saucer! Sophitia is cool, but her costumes are a bit too conservative for me, though I agree her second one is better.
The problem I'm finding in my decision for controls, by the way, is that the general circling and maneuvering is much more comfortable with the stick. However, a lot of the more high precision special attacks I can pull off a lot better with the pad. I think it's years of doing hadokens that make the quarter circle so easy for me on the pad, whereas on the joystick I sometimes miss it, and leave myself open in consequence.
Which voices do you guys generally use? I flip between both, but I must say the English voices are pretty good. I wish they'd given Raphael a better French accent, though. Even so, he's really cool. I think what I like best when attacking with him is when he does his Assalto Montante Crescendo combo, during the first part he says "En guarde..." and when he finishes the move he says "Die!" in a totally different tone of voice! I love hearing that... "En guarde.... Die!" followed by the squeal of an opponent, as it just means I'm being successful.
Speaking of Raphael, I am surprised at the great fashion in which Namco got down the actual fighting style. Well, maybe some fencing buff will tell you that there's some mistakes here and there, but watching the way Raphael performs his thrusts is exactly the way those guys do it in real life. Amazing.
And yeah, I've definitely been practicing with Raphael more than with the other charas. I figure he and Link will be my main guys. Link is pretty well balanced, though some say he's "cheap" because his throws have pretty high ring out potential. I am obviously using him, though, because, hey, Link is Link. One of the greatest characters in video game history. Next I want to master one of the female characters, but I'm not sure which. I mean, the one that struck me at once at being the coolest was definitely Ivy. Just looking at her fight is great. However, her moves seem kinda complex, like there's a lot of stuff to keep track of. So I'd rather go with a more straightforward character, but that's cool too... well, most of them are cool, but we'll see. Maybe one of the Greek chicks.
And on a somewhat related topic, it looks like Namco really has it made these days. Not only was SCII hugely successful, but their new GC RPG, Tales of Symphonia, sold extremely well in its debut this week. I mean, usually PS2 outsells GC by about a four or five to one margin in Japan, but this week there were actually more Gamecubes sold, mainly because of Tales. It's another game I can't wait to get my hands on. And, just like Soul Calibur, it's not that the games are merely selling because of the hype (like, say, Enter the Matrix did), but because the quality is there. Tales got near perfect reviews from the Japanese mags, so it should be good. And we all know how good SC is, too. Ah, and the art in Tales is by the same guy who did Ah! My Goddess, so it was a sweet anime style to it, isn't that cool?
But yeah, Namco really is on a roll. As a GC fan, I have to say that a good bunch of the games I'm looking forward to most are from this company. Aside from Tales, these guys are also doing another RPG for GC called Baten Kaitos, and man, the trailers look unbelievably sweet. They're also taking care of the next installments of Star Fox and Donkey Kong, two huge Nintendo franchises, which just goes to show how much confidence Nintendo has in them.

How about her Greek one, with all the open lace-up work in the front? ^^; That's actually alot more ecchi than the one in the first game. Although, my all-time fave Sophitia costume is still the second one from the first game. ^_^ Second costume from the second game is great though. Wonder what other ones she has in this game? ;D Quite against my original reservations, I find myself liking Cassandra more and more. Maybe I just have a Sophitia-complex? Purist that I am, I can't play fighting games in english. I just start twitching and shuddering everytime somebody says something. Kind of like when anime companies put bits of dub dialog in DVD menus. That's probably why I never made it through any of the Bloody Roar games (yeah yeah, I know they're american. so what). That's the first thing I did before I started SC2, go into the options menu and see about language. Good thing I checked, too. ; Yup, it's so much easier to pull off in 3D fighters, with using chara models. Image capture and all. Shenmue, The DOA games and the VF games all have very realistic fighting styles as well. VF and SC certainly have some of the most varied as well.

Can't blame ya for liking Cassandra! And yeah, I hadn't realized just how much Sophitia's other costume showed. Not conservative at all!
Oh, and I've totally decided. The first female character that I'll attempt to master is definitely Ivy. She's the one that called my attention as being the coolest to begin with (heh heh, no surprise there, right?), but at first I was intimidated by the fact that a couple of her moves are insanely hard to do. But hey, even if I can't do those two moves, she's still a force to be dealt with. Some of her attacks do tremendous amounts of damage, and it's not that hard to perform deadly combos with that whip of hers. So yeah, I'll be using her a lot.
Oh, and as I was telling you earlier, Saucer, I am amazed by the sheer amount of depth in each character. Even with Raphael, with whom I was beginning to think I was doing okay with, I realize I'm merely beginning to scratch the surface. Now I see he can do auto-evades, soul charge cancels, and that there's different stuff he can do out of each preparation stance! Pretty complex. And here I was at first, thinking that all there was to it was a bit of button mashing.
Also, I found out you can get several absolutely awesome items for Link, the Biggoron Sword, the Megaton Hammer, and even the Bug Catching Net from ALttP, to name a few. I need to go find and buy those, too!

j00 know, in the Japanese port of Soul Calibur for Dreamcast, there was a code to change to color of Sophitia's panties. ^.^;;;;
Some of Ivy's moves may be insanely hard to execute, but they're also insanely cheap. Even SC2 has some of those virtually impossible super special moves (ala Street Fighter Alpha). ^^;
Hey, you know that scene in the opening movie where Taki is fighting Ivy, and her sword breaks apart and the pieces all fly at Taki like shuriken? I wonder if that's a real move in the game?

Guess they made it like that because it would be cooler I guess.

Hey Saucer, for the Xbox version, have you ever pressed the L/R shoulder buttons while in the character select screen? Like while hovering over female characters? Does anything... bounce?

I noticed the bounce before in the game, but it's really pronounced in profile mode. Looks like Namco developed their own Breast Physics Engine. ^_^;;;
