Holy shit, what a pile! If you're a big otaku of everything Japanese, and want to watch this movie because it's about gaijin in Japan, DON'T BOTHER. It will just piss you off. Or at least, it did me. Bill Murray is a washed up actor who goes to Japan to do an endorsement for a Japanese Whiskey maker. This other chick is married to a loser who is working in Japan as a photographer. The both of them absolutely hate Japan and are bored and want to go home. Gawd, I'm only going to be there for a week and it's going to be the greatest thing ever! Imagine being able to live and work there for an extended period?! Some people have all the luck. Admittedly, Bill Murray's wife is a bitch and the chick's husband is an ass-bisquit. So it's no wonder that they bond together and form a friendship (and eventually more). But the whole movie, they're like "Oh gawd, WTF are we doing in this place? Let's huddle together like lost children in a strange land." Fuck you! Trade places with me then! That was 1 hour and 40 minutes of my life that I wished I'd spent on something better.

Oh damn really? My friends are all like .."Pucc' you dig that anime shit , you gotta see this movie" Yeah I got that alot too. Especially when I said I was going to Japan. "Oh, you have to see this movie before you go!" Why? So I can change my mind? I did hear alot of people say it was ass though. But I just had to see for myself, because people aren't always right. ^^; One thing I will say, it had a great soundtrack! My Bloody Valentine & Kevin Shields solo, Death in Vegas....... Well at least they got something right.

The other day when I was home in Louisiana with the fam, they were showing this on some movie channel. Because of the good reviews, my parents wanted to watch it, but I warned them about what you'd said. They decided to watch it to form their own opinion, and since I wasn't doing anything, I joined them.
And now, Saucer-san, there's three more people that agree with you. Seriously, what a piece of garbage. The only thing I'm curious about is just what the critics found so great about it. I've heard people say that Bill Murray did a wonderful acting job this time. Well, if your idea of good acting is having the same fucking frustrated expression throughout the entire movie, then yes, I agree. And aside from the things you said and the condescending way most Japanese things are portrayed, have you thought about just what little significance all that happened in the movie had to the characters? Bill Murray's just gonna go back and the chick is just gonna stay there, no big effects in one another's life. All they did was pass the time.
Anyway, if you haven't watched this movie, good for you. Stay away from it.

Exactly! Not to mention all the dumb ass things they said, like "Why do they mix up their Rs and Ls?" Because there is neither R nor L in the Japanese language! Next time, before you visit a foreign country, do a little research! Both of them epitomised the typical, "Rude and ignorant American" stereoptype that alot of Japanese hold. Thanks! Thank alot! Oh, and then they just had to turn their noses up at that old Sonny Chiba samurai drama that was on TV. When they flashed that, I was like "OH! Let me watch that, instead of this shite!" I really wonder what the hell Sophia Coppola was thinking? I'll tell you this though, it makes me not really have any desire to see any of her other movies! I honestly think she was trying to make it like a Japanese film, using alot of space and setting to tell the story. Too bad, she did such a shitty job.
And yes, I am simply dying to know just what critics found so great about this film as well. Not that it would probably come as much of a shocker. We all know that film critics are holding such an challenging career, since they obviously can't do anything else.
