The publishers of Animerica have announced that, after the June 2005 issue they will cease selling subscriptions and only sell it at Cons. Well....... personally I stopped reading it after they stopped serializing Galaxy Express 999 so........ ^^; On the other hand, they're also going to start publishing a rag called Shojo Beat. Sister (no pun intended) publication to Shonen Jump. Features shojo manga (of course), fashion, culture and entertainment news from Japan etc..... (the later might be interesting) If anything, hopefully it will be more sucessful than Animerica Extra's faling attempt at "going shojo."

Is it because they are getting from Newtype USA...though Newtype is published by ADV and is ADV centered it does get info 3 months ahead of Animerica

I havent read that magazine in years. I take it that it means Newtype USA is doing somewhat well despite the price increase.

You've all heard me complain (at length) about Animerica before so I won't whip that dead horse anymore, suffice to say that GE999 was the only thing that kept me reading for a long time. Newtype USA went up in price? How much? ;

It was originally 9.99 then they dropped the DVD for the retail copies. Then they started adding the DVD in again but raised the price to I believe 12.99.

yes, I can confirm the 12.99 price! You get a huge ass magazine and it is the best of its kind. However , you must bow down to ADV films....worth it?

I have a stack of original Japanese Newtype (Animage, too) and it is indeed a sweet rag. But I've never perused the US edition. I wonder if it can live up to it's parent's reputation?
The US edition of Shonen Jump is a good rag, though I usually skip Yu Gi Oh and DBZ.... and most of the articles. Though it's gotten a little thinner these days. When DBZ ended, they didn't actually replace it with anything. They better soon, because when I was in Japan I saw the original Shonen Jump. It literally looks like a phone book. I'm not kidding, it's huge! ^^;
